Located at the point where Europe and Asia meet across the
Bosphorus, Bogazici Shipping began building cargo vessels
nearly two decades ago. Since 2005 it has also been
constructing a wide variety of tugs and offshore support
vessels, for international owners and operators.
Still a privately owned company, Bogazici was established in
1992 by four men with a wealth of maritime-sector experience.
The company's president Ali Acerer has worked in the maritime
industry since 1980 with considerable experience in ship-trading
and ship-recycling. Vice-president Ertan Özgür has spent more
than 40 years in the finance and maritime sectors, with a
particularly strong background in all types of marine contracting,
financial affairs and international law.
Rounding out the board are Fazil Uzun and Bilgehan Acerer.
Uzun, a shipbuilding engineer, has been involved in designing and
constructing dozens of ships. Acerer, a metallurgical engineer, has
substantial experience in ship recycling and the sale and purchase
of ships. He is presently involved in product marketing, marine
contracts, international relations and some technical issues.
Given its owners' established international network of contacts
and experience, Bogazici achieved rapid success in the ship-trading
business, purchasing and selling unfinished and finished vessels such
as bulk carriers, container ships, tankers, tugs and special purpose
vessels. With its longstanding relationships in the world shipping
market, the company improved its business to become a well-known,
reliable partner for those demanding high-quality ships.
However, the company rapidly moved beyond trading as
shipbuilding became its core business. In the early years following
its foundation, Bogazici constructed five newbuild bulk carriers,
varying from 5,000DWT to 9,000DWT. In addition, the company
completed a further six bulk carriers, a multipurpose cargo vessel
and an oil tanker by buying hulls and completing construction
work on them.
In late 2005, the company diversified its shipbuilding
operations, producing a variety of powerful Azimuth Stern Drive
multipurpose offshore vessels, and escort/harbour/LNG terminal
tugs with bollard pulls ranging from 40 to 80 tonnes. Bogazici is
now mainly focused on building high-quality tugs and offshore
supply vessels (OSVs). Using the latest technologies and advanced
quality control systems, the company offers tailor-made solutions
for international operators all over the world who demand tugs
and OSVs at any type, size and power. However, Bogazici is still
also heavily involved in ship-trading, the sector where it first made
